Danny Jones

Danny’s musical career started when he began playing the cornet at the age of 7. He was taught by ex-Stanshawe Band Principal Cornet Dave Thomas for many years. Throughout his school days he won many solo competition prizes.

Danny started his banding career with the City Of Bristol Band where he stayed for 12 years. He then moved to the Portishead Town Band as Principal cornet in 2002. In 2004 he moved back to City Of Bristol Band as they gained Championship Section status and held the Repiano seat for a couple of years.

Then came the time when Danny decided to give the cornet a rest and try a tenor horn, as there was a horn vacancy within the band. Within 6 months the Flowers Band had signed him up for their horn section.

Danny spent a couple of very happy years with Flowers through one of the band’s most successful contesting periods. They were runners-up at the Masters, winners of the Grand Shield, which meant a return to the British Open contest, Yeovil, Wychavon and West of England Champions.

At Flowers Danny gained more musical knowledge than he could ever have hoped for, whilst playing under Philip Harper. Regrettably he had to leave the Flowers band in March 2008, when he decided to start his own business.

In January 2009 Danny decided to launch his conducting career with the Marshfield Band where he took them to the West of England Regional Championships. He worked the band hard and they achieved a creditable 7th place.

Throughout the summer of 2009 Danny conducted local bands gaining valuable experience.
